Certificate Dutch as a Foreign Language
The CNaVT (Certificaat Nederlands als Vreemde Taal) offers examinations at five different levels:
A2 – Maatschappelijk Informeel (INFO) – manage in informal, everyday situations
B1 – Maatschappelijk Formeel (FORM) – manage independently in more formal contexts in Dutch or Flemish society
B2 – Zakelijk Professioneel (PROF) – manage on the work floor (administrative profession or healthcare)
B2 – Educatief Startbekwaam (STRT) – study at a Flemish or Dutch university
C1 – Educatief Professioneel (EDUP) – advanced knowledge of Dutch to manage in education or a business environment
With the Educatief Professioneel (EDUP) exam you have the possibility to do an exam at a higher level than the Staatsexamen NT2 (Programma I niveau B1 & Programma II niveau B2), namely at level C1.
When do the CNaVT examinations take place?
The CNaVT exams are held every year between 1 and 15 May in more than 40 countries, at universities and private language institutes.

The CNaVT consists of three parts:
1) Part A Listening & Writing
2) Part B Reading & Writing
3) Part C Speaking & Conversation
At level B2 (STRT) and C1 (EDUP), you also have to do a presentation at Part C.

How can I prepare for the CNaVT?
The Dutchess is happy to help you prepare for the CNaVT exam. You will practice with sample exams and extra assignments and will receive feedback from your teacher, so you can take the exam well prepared. (Note: The Dutchess does not take the official exam itself. For this you need to register with one of the official examination institutes).
